how you'll know if pierre rural is right for you
With options from two to four-week electives, you'll work alongside faculty and residents in Sioux Falls and Pierre, tour the training sites, and learn how to customize residency through electives. A visit or rotation is never required to match with us.
What a rotation includes
You will spend real time inside the program
Options from 2 to 4-week elective rotations are primarily outpatient — working with faculty and residents in Pierre. Shorter visits scale down accordingly. We'll build the schedule with you.

Avera St. Mary's in Pierre
Time at our Pierre training sites — inpatient, outpatient, and rural family medicine settings.
- 02
Noon conference + faculty lectures
Lunch is provided. You participate in whatever's on the schedule that week — possibly the Simulation Lab, POCUS workshops, or Academic Half Days.

Resident social time
Coffee, dinner, evening events — the unstructured part of seeing if the cohort feels right.
