Pierre Inpatient Years 2–3

Avera St. Mary's Hospital

State-of-the-art hospital in Pierre where residents manage inpatient medicine, OB, ED, and procedural rotations. Residents are assigned patients and serve as primary physicians with staff supervision — from first prenatal visit through delivery and postnatal care.

Rural rotation sites

A four-week rural rotation is required

Several rural teaching sites have been carefully selected and prepared for resident participation. One designated site sits within 30 miles of Pierre Rural — for residents whose personal situations need a rural rotation within commuting distance. Housing is provided at the rural teaching sites.
